Pit dewatering is not one duty. There is water to lift out of the sump, water to move across the bench, and water to push up a static head that grows every year the pit goes deeper. Trying to cover all three with one pump is how you end up running something well off its curve.
The SPP range is wide enough to take each duty on its own terms, which is what the package was built around.
What went in
- Solids handling non-clog pumps in the sump, where the water is not clean and never will be.
- Horizontal multistage sets for the static lift out of the pit.
- Self-priming SEJ units on the benches, because a pump that has to be primed by hand is a pump that gets left off.
The static head is the figure to get right at the start. It is the one that grows, and repowering a multistage set three years in costs more than specifying for it did.
Sizing a dewatering set
Flow, total head, the solids content and how the sump is expected to move over the life of the pit. The last one changes the answer more often than people expect.
